Iceland - South Coast & Golden Circle
SELJAVALLALAUG GEOTHERMAL POOL
This utterly unique swimming pool is built into the side of a mountain and filled with natural hot water that flows straight out of the rock. It's setting is truly epic, with some awesome views down the valley. It's also easily accessible from the ring road - see map opposite
It was recently voted one of the world's best swimming pools by Guardian readers; http://bit.ly/1uQ3zrQ
Iceland Crashed Plane site
After doing some research online we found the location of the infamous crashed plane site on the road to Vik, where a US Navy airplane was forced to land on Sólheimasandur’s black sandy beach.
Various folk mentioned it was about an hour's walk from the main ring road but you can drive down to within about 200m of the site if you have a 4×4. The Google Map screengrab below shows where you need to turn off (to the right behind the Mydralsjokull sign).
After a 10minute drive you come to a small river, which you need to cross on foot. It's bloody baltic so make sure you cross it quickly.... Definitely a must visit if you're driving on the south coast!
